Kiai Tseu Yuan Houa Tchouan -- Chinese Work in Cloth Slipcase -- Antique
This lot consists of the work in Chinese shown in the corresponding images. This work consists of five volumes, wrapped in tan paper with titles printed in Chinese, in a navy blue cloth slipcase. The slipcase also displays a title printed in Chinese, and opens and closes with two toggles. The front covers of the paper-wrapped volumes display what appear to be translations written in red pencil and/or pen. These appear to write out the Chinese lettering phonetically in European letters, as well as translate some of the words into German. These indicate what can be found within the volumes. For example, 'Baumaste blattwerk baume pflanzen' ('tree branches') is written on a volume containing images of tree branches throughout. Please see the images for more details. The interiors of these publications are printed with calligraphy and illustrations. The first volume is only text, while the remaining four are profusely illustrated.
