Two other rams lie peacefully next to it. The motif of three rams with the taiji sign (san yang kai tai) suggests the auspicious beginning of a new year, based on Yijing (the Book of Change). A REGENCY ORMOLU PORTICO CLOCK <br> <br> BAETENS, 23, Gerrard Street, Soho, London. A fine quality English mantel ormolu timepiece by this respected firm of London clockmakers.The ormolu case is of classical style with a rectangular base applied to the front with cast berried foliage, mask and central bronze recumbent lion. The fusee movement with enamel dial is fully signed on the backplate on a silvered cartouche and is contained within a gilt drum supported on twin tapered ringed columns and surmounted by a central eagle with outstretched wings. Joseph Baetens was in business during the first quarter of the 19th century and is very well known as one of the most important makers of English bronze and ormolu clocks in London during that period <br> <br> Date: circa 1820 <br> Height: 36cm Ding Tian UK Auctions

A GUAN-STYLE CELADON GLAZED BRUSH WASHER <br> 18TH CENTURY <br> D: 17.5cm; H:6 cm <br> With rounded sides supported on a ring foot, this brush washer is thickly covered with a crackled greyish-green celadon glaze in imitation of classic Song Guan ware. <br> The washer is thick walled with an upright rim and compressed globular body, raised on a short foot ring, covered with an opaque grayish-green glaze displaying a wide web of black and faint russet crackle lines applied to all surfaces apart from the narrow foot pad. <br> Ding Tian UK Auctions

A 2-DAY MARINE CHRONOMETER BY REID AND SONS, ENGLAND <br> <br> A good quality mid-19th century mahogany cased marine chronometer of 2 day duration by Reid and Sons, makers to the British Admiralty. <br> <br> The circular silvered and engraved dial is fully signed and numbered 1874, has subsidiary second and up and down dials, bearing Exhibition Medals for London and Paris, 1875, together with gold hands. On the interior of the lid retains a paper label depicting the company of George Falconer and Co (Hong Kong) Ltd, who were agents for Admiralty Charts and Books, dated and signed April 1936, who serviced this chronometer. Together with this piece is its original mahogany keep box with a horse hair filled baize lining and leather strap handle. <br> <br> The chronometer has a fusee movement with finely spotted plates, cut fully compensated balance wheel and blued steel helical main spring and diamond endstone,contained within is a brass gimbal mounted brass bowl with ratchet winding key. <br> <br> Literature: This renowned firm of Chronometer makers were established during the larger part of the 19th century in Liverpool and this example dates from 1875.
