Roman Dear-Shaped Pottery Vessel
Roman, ca. 3rd Century A.D. <br>The body of this vessel is mold-made, and ornamented with circular stamps. These designs form the eyes, and decorate the forelocks, rump, lower back, and the tail of the animal. A narrow slit in its mouth serves as a spout and it was probably intended for ritual use. Made of red clay, with a red slip. Probably from North Africa. Dimensions: 6 1/2 inches H.
