After his first one-man exhibition in 1949, Mouly continued to develop his technique, expertly incorporating his formal art education and the influences of such masters as Picasso (whom he was to study with) and Matisse to create his own unique, trademark style. While one may note his use of the deep, bold colors typically used in Matisse’s Fauvist works, or the Cubism of Picasso, Mouly’s style is uniquely and unmistakably his own. By the 1950s Mouly was already looked upon as an emerging brilliant and skilled young painter. In the mid 1950s, he began to work in the printmaking medium of lithography and he was soon recognized as a master printmaker, as well. This floating metal print by photographer Katie Osborn captures the waves of the Californian coast during a big south swell coming from Antarctica. This eye-catching floating high gloss metal print represents a new art medium for preserving photos by infusing dyes directly into specially coated aluminum sheets. Because the image is infused into the surface and not on it, the images take on an almost magical luminescence. They reveal vibrant colors in a way no other medium does and they present detail and resolution in a manner that is unsurpassed. These metal prints are scratch- resistant and waterproof. Along with this unique printing method, all prints come with the Float Mount Hanger so the print will give a “floating-like” appearance half an inch off the wall. Read more

7''H x 5 1/2'' W announcement/invitation. Color offset lithograph. 1980. Signed in black marker, center right. Edition of c250. Cream smooth wove paper. The full sheet. Fine impression with bright colors. Very good condition; biographical information verso. _________________________________________ In 1980, when his critical reputation was at a low ebb, he produced “Ten Portraits of Jews of the 20th Century.” The series of 40-inch-square silk-screened canvases appeared at the Jewish Museum that year. Warhol followed his usual procedure for portraits, silk-screening a photograph over previously applied colors and tracing crayonlike lines over it's contours. The underlying colors are broken up into flat, geometric compositions, creating a mild tension between abstraction and photographic representation. The portrait of Sarah Bernhardt, in which her beautiful, ghostly face is layered over a square divided diagonally into blue and orange fields, evocatively layered and disjointed. Read more

Artist description: ‘Over-development’ is a piece that subconsciously spoke to me of how playful wild foliage should look like, and remain. I titled this Over-development as a play on making way for residential and multi-mixed use buildings deemed essential for urban living. Private Property is a series of provocative photographs that deals with environmental elements and social conscious statements. My concern for the beauty of our landscape and clean air revolves around ‘not all construction is good construction’. By looking beyond the surface, we can work towards being mindful and aware of how our behavior not only affects society’s perception of ourselves but also the mis-treatment of our environment. Kies’ early Neo-Symbolist work makes one think of an L.A. Paul Klee. He described this early work as a sort of “petroglyphic graffiti.” Over the years, his work has evolved as he has experimented with materials such as sandpaper, foil, glass, and found elements. He’s been working on a large scale, using a pre-Roman era style called “verre eglomise” or reverse glass painting. The effect is strikingly complex, making one think of a beloved landscape through the veil of one’s dreams. This body of work is a personal vision, dense with color, and detailed with an elusive magic that transports the viewer. Read more
