Early 19th C Gun Tool with Corkscrew AND Gun Tool Worm

A very rare early 19th-century gun tool that includes both a gun-tool worm and a corkscrew. Giulian's CORKSCREWS OF THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY conains several illustrations that bear on this tool. Have a look at pp. 22-23 for  a discussion of the gun-tool worm and illustrations of rods similar to those contained in this set. Also have a look at the multitool shown in the lower left of p.88. That tool is almost identical to the one we've shown in our third image except that it also incorporates the hammer that is a stand-alone in our set--see last image. We've included the gun-tool worm in third image to make clear that the set contains both. The gun tools with a corkscrew that most of us are familiar with are pistol tools. The rods that are central part of this set make evident that this was basically a rifle tool. It was found in France but could be Spanish. Perhaps if soaked in oil the screw will release from the frame. Pages 48-49 of WORLD CLASS CORKSCREWS show tools which include similar implements. N.B. those tools from the Barella collection at the top of page 49. N.B.: one rod is frozen in frame and I'm loathe to apply much pressure to remove it. Extremely Rare Fluted Helix Version of Walter Dickson Patent

This is the only example of Walter Dickson's American patent/ratcheting corkscrew with a fluted helix that I have seen. All of the other examples I have seen have bladed helixes making this one exceptionally rare for an already rare corkscrew. Includes a spike and an internal ratcheting system inside the handle. The ratchet mechanism works very well. It is marked on the shank "PAT AUG 2 1870". While the helix is short, it appears to be original; it is also a little larger and sturdier than similar helixes as it would need to be to withstand the stress that this type of corkscrew would have to endure. This may have been an early prototype before deciding that a bladed helix would be stronger and better suited for these corkscrews.  This item is in good condition; the helix is sharp and seems to be original, the tip of the spike is chipped, there may be some minor pitting to the surface. As always, I am more than happy to provide you with additional pictures or answer any questions you may have. View the link below for additional pictures of this item. http://www.corkscrewcollectors.com/dickson.html   View the collection at www.CorkscrewCollectors.com This item is in good condition; the helix is sharp and seems to be original, the tip of the spike is chipped, there may be some minor pitting to the surface.Read more
