"Monolith" av James Cummins

Blandteknik på duk, 105, 105 x140 cm, 140, Titel: "Monolith", "Monolith", James Cummins föddes i Liverpool och har studerat måleri och skulptur i Grekland, Italien, Indien och Bali. Han bor och verkar idag som oberoende konstnär i Berlin. “Their inscribed, scarred, gouged surfaces, their unreadable graffiti and illegible signs, their indecipherable cuneiform and calligraphy, the ropes and sheets, the ragged canvas, the scratched wounded forms all attest to vanished presences, lost dreams and unrealised hopes. And then, rather than positing that oblivion is a destination that art of all things can defer, he incorporates times effects into his work, time as an unavoidable fact. We know that something has happened, passed over, but not what. Knowing that time cannot be overcome, he makes works that endures, registers and acknowledges time`s passing. His work is about remembering, because that which is forgotten is lost and perhaps irretrievable.”, Their inscribed, scarred, gouged surfaces, their unreadable graffiti and illegible signs, their indecipherable cuneiform and calligraphy, the ropes and sheets, the ragged canvas, the scratched wounded forms all attest to vanished presences, lost dreams and unrealised hopes.
