Bob Marley: Babylon By Van - Dennis Morris

The framing option for this RUN includes a 1 inch black wood frame with UV-glass, foam core backing and ready to hang hardware. "This is actually one of the first photos I took of him (Bob Marley.) What happened was that I had met him, and he had told me about that tour that he was doing, and asked me if I would like to come along. I said yea. So I met him and we went to his hotel, and in those days they didn't have a tour bus, it's what you'd call a transit van. Basically the shot is when he turned around to me, because he's in the front row, he says 'You ready Dennis?' and I went *click* 'yea.' and so the adventure began. With that picture." - Dennis Morris, Read our full interview with Dennis Morris at News.1xRUN.com, News.1xRUN.com, The framing option for this RUN includes a 1 inch black wood frame with UV-glass, foam core backing and ready to hang hardware."This is actually one of the first photos I took of him (Bob Marley.) With that picture." - Dennis Morris Read our full interview with Dennis Morris at News.1xRUN.com ABOUT THE ARTIST: Dennis Morris is a British-based artist who has used the camera to produce an in-depth body of work on extraordinary individuals. Morris started his career at an early age. He was 11 years old when one of his photographs was printed on the front page of the Daily Mirror. A camera fanatic since the age of 8, Dennis was known around his East End neighbourhood as Mad Dennis, due to his preference for photography over football. After inadvertently stumbling across a particularly feisty demonstration by the PLO one Sunday, the sharp young Dennis took his film to a photo agency on Fleet Street who promptly sold it to the Daily Mirror for £16. Accustomed to raising money for films and camera parts by taking photos of christenings and birthday parties, Dennis was suddenly on to something; his hobby and all-consuming passion could be done for a living. It was whilst bunking off school to wait for Bob Marley to arrive for soundcheck at the Speak Easy Club on Margaret Street, that Dennis's music photography career really began. Marley, quite taken with the young teenager who was waiting for him, invited Dennis to come along and take pictures on the remainder of the tour. Running home to Dalston, Dennis packed his bag and jumped on the bus. His photographs of Marley and The Wailers became famous the world over, appearing on the cover of Time Out and Melody Maker before Dennis had even turned 17. Closely associated with music, Morris has created some of the most iconic and memorable images of Bob Marley and the Sex Pistols, as well as the Marianne Faithfull Broken English album cover. He has also captured the essence of the Sikh community of Southall, UK; the collection was subsequently bought by English Heritage. Morris also created the iconic Public Image Ltd logo and the band’s first two album sleeves, including the Metal Box.Several books of his work have been published, including Bob Marley: A Rebel Life; The Bollocks, on the Sex Pistols; and Growing Up Black, a chronicle of Black Britain in the 1960s and 1970s.His work is well recognized and has been exhibited internationally at the Today Art Museum, Beijing; Laforet Museum, Tokyo; Arles Photography Festival, France; The Photographers’ Gallery, London; The Institute of Contemporary Arts, London; Tate Britain, London; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland. His photographs are included in prestigious public and private collections, such as Tate Britain, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and have appeared in numerous publications, including Rolling Stone, Time, GQ, Vogue, W, and Frieze. His work is included in books such as Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of the Twentieth Century by Greil Marcus; Century by Bruce Bernard; and 100 Days of Active Resistance by Vivienne Westwood. The framing option for this RUN includes a 7/8 inch black wood frame with UV-glass foam core backing and ready to hang hardware. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Brandon Boyd’s work as a singer, songwriter, both as a solo artist and with his platinum-selling rock band, is well documented and universally acclaimed. But now his other life’s work -- that of a painter -- has been garnering increasing attention and devoted audiences of its own. In his painting and drawings, Boyd reveals a personal, freeform, ambiguous kind of visual style that focuses on magic, serendipity, curiosity and mystery. Describing his art-making process as a kind of “blissful, familiar trance,” Boyd’s works carry both the evidence of the beautiful chaos and the power of revealing the narratives inside of it. His images are constructed by chance through colorful ink spills and the contents of his own travel journals. As songs might come to him in a dream, so he discovers the vibrant, witty, eccentrically classical constellations of shape and circumstance that hide in plain view or emerge from his own quieted mind through another kind of sight. 2-Print Set - Fuzzy Logic + Unlock - Mars 1

Due to sizing, this RUN does not include a framing option. ABOUT THE ARTIST, Due to sizing, this RUN does not include a framing option. ABOUT THE ARTIST Mario Martinez (aka MARS-1) paints from a penetrating perspective of great depth. Viewers are drawn into his imaginative compositions, overflowing with colorful geometric and organic shapes, layered to form unique patterns and textures. The artist signature style of vast, abstracted, quasi-extraterrestrial looking landscapes feature imagery of surreal distortions, contained within spherically convex transparent bubbles. Skillfully combining optical color blending with perspective line work, his painting techniques result in very three-dimensional forms, which echo the anatomy of architecture, and microcosmic structures of biology. Mars-1’s distinctly individual aesthetic is not easily compared to the vision of his contemporaries or artists from past movements. These 3-D qualities transcend into his sculptural work, as well. His constantly evolving process continues to expand with each new series of work, seemingly beyond the reaches of even his own awareness. Themes explored range from very scientific to more esoteric phenomena. From theoretical physics, metamorphosis and collective consciousness, to ufology and examining possibilities of otherworldly principles, the relative link between physical and life sciences are applied throughout. Transitional energies, natural multiplicity, helixes and spontaneous biological occurrences all come together, forming imagery with hypotheses beyond the scope of modern technologyRead more

The framing option for this RUN includes a 7/8 inch black wood frame with UV-glass foam core backing and ready to hang hardware."Psychedelic substances definitely had a major role in the development of my popular 'bear' character. Back when I was in college, my best friend and I had an experience that inspired us to run around my house declaring we were Care Bears. I was christened 'Luke Bear,' and my friend, 'Jaime Bear.' Nicknames that have stuck till this day. Fast forward to when I moved to Los Angeles. I wanted to create an character that could readily represent me. Even after more than a decade, a bear was the obvious choice." - Luke Chueh ABOUT THE ARTIST: Born in Philadelphia, but raised in Fresno, Luke Chueh (pronounced CHU) studied graphic design at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obipso where he earned a BS in Art & Design. He was then employed by the Ernie Ball Company, working in-house as designer/illustrator where he created several award winning designs and was featured in the design annuals of Communication Arts and Print Magazine. In 2003, Chueh moved to Los Angeles to further pursue a career in design. However, a lack of employment opportunities left him resorting to painting as a way to keep busy. From there, he got his start showing in the Los Angeles underground art scene, specifically in the Cannibal Flower art shows. Since then Chueh has quickly worked his way up the ranks of the LA art scene, establishing himself as an artist not to be ignored. Employing minimal color schemes, simple animal characters, and a endless list of ill-fated situations, Chueh stylistically balances cute with brute, walking the fine line between comedy and tragedy. We never stopped for “The Cops’’ and never were caught...until the night of the following day. Get Off Of My Cloud Was done for a big show at Art Basel. The painting measured 10 foot square. A truck was hired to deliver it to the newest gallery in Miami. The opening was a smash. After midnight a storm blew in. The huge promo ballon blew into the klieg lights and electrical lines. Instant Explosion….the fire burned the gallery into rubble. Nobody was killed, but ''Get Off My Cloud was a casualty. Jazz Baby originally was part of my Opium Series. The framing option for this RUN includes a 7/8 inch black wood frame with UV-glass foam core backing and ready to hang hardware. "My first wife and I, who was a war correspondent in Vietnam, both went off to Marrakech. We arrived at this campground during the first few days when we were looking for a place to rent. These two Dutch hippie couples pulled into the campground at the end of a rainstorm, just as the rainbow was appearing, and pulled up and parked. If you're looking at this picture face on from the front, the doors would open with a butterfly. The other side was painted with Indians and other stuff. It was an incredible van. It was so appropriate to the time. Here I was on the Marrakech Express, and that was how I was introduced to Morocco." I was hanging out with a lot of people at the folk music house on Clayton and Haight, in the Haight-Ashbury. These people were all members of that club.
