LOWRY, L.S.. Autograph Letter Signed - (ALS)
LOWRY, L.S. Autograph Letter Signed - (ALS) Two related ALSs from L.S. Lowry, both on "The Elms" headed notepaper, dated 19 October 1962, and with original mailing envelope, addressed in Lowry's hand. Each letter approx. 230x175mm, and with faint single horizontal and vertical folds. The first letter is addressed to the noted art critic, Mervyn Levy, author of 'The Paintings of L.S. Lowry' and 'The Drawings of L.S. Lowry', and confirms that Lowry has written a letter to Cecil King, publisher of the Studio magazine, and Levy's employer as the magazine's Features Editor. The second letter is the aforementioned letter to King which speaks of Levy's work in glowing terms. An excellent grouping of items, particularly noteworthy for Lowry's musings in his cover letter to Levy, "After about 10 days in London, Manchester seems like a place of the dead - quite deserted in comparison". Images of all items in this lot available on our auction website. Fraser's Autographs
