French Industrial Animated Steam Engine Clock. Tri-tone bronze and rouge marble case in the form of a steam pump engine with piston in the center front driven by the large flywheel and governor assembly at the top with pierced baluster gallery having acorn finials, pierced corbels, 4 round columns and square marble columns; the body of the case has an incised brick design with 2.5 in. silvered dial aneroid barometer on the left, 2.5 in. silvered time dial to the right signed “J.E. Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia” with thermometers in between. Has a brass 8 day spring driven movement with platform lever escapement and strikes on a coiled gong. Has figural griffin's heads at the end of the spouts and covered urn shaped finials on the hinged lids. Signed with profile king's head portrait in an oval hallmark for Mt. Vernon Silver Co., Pompeiian No. 186 pattern and marked "Sterling". Standing carved wood figure of a Native American woman wearing a dress and headdress, holds tobacco in her left hand; figure has some inpainting, has carving repair to the right hand, left hand is repaired. J. H. Belter Tuthill King Meridienne. Laminated pierced carved rosewood with leaves, acorns, flowers and a single cornucopia on the back with scrolling serpentine borders and a fancy floral carved crest. The back continues down through the arm, carved at the knuckle and support below, with cabriole legs ending in scrolled feet. The serpentine seat rail is carved with roses and other summer flowers.
