This auction catalogue consists of mainly books and manuscripts from the estate of Reverend John Brand, who is described as being unrivalled as "a Collector of every Thing relative to popular decayed Antiquity and Topography, of Great Britain and Ireland." The auction occurred over thirty-six days, and each lot on the list has a meticulous annotation of prices and buyers' names handwritten to the right side. A receipt on front pastedown is signed by John Brand (1744-1806) and dated 13th February 1806, for monies received from Sir Thomas Gery Cullum for membership of the Society of Antiquaries of London. Sir Thomas Gery Cullum, 7th Baronet (1741-1831), of Hardwick House, Suffolk, was a medical doctor who was educated at Charterhouse in London and Trinity College, Cambridge, subsequently practising surgery at Bury St. Edmunds. A free endpaper in the rear contains a list of accounts.
