Hans Vollmer was a trained cabinetmaker and graduated from Vienna School of Arts and crafts under Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser. In 1901 he founded the association "Wiener Kunst im Haus" together with Wilhelm Schmidt, also a pupil of Hoffmann. From 1901 Vollmer designed furniture for the famous "Prag Rudniker Korbwaren-Fabrication". Through the mediation of Hans Vollmer and Wilhelm Schmidt, important artists of the time like Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser and Otto Prutscher, were won over as designers for Prag Rudniker.
