About the object

Chinese early 18th century rare pair of Doucai Bowls made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi at the kilns at Jingdezhen. painted to the outside with swimming golden carp – gold fish – I a pool with lotus and lilies. They are painted in a vertically striped water representing ripples. The inside has plain sides and to the base the pattern is repeated with a single fish in the water with lotus and lilies. the base has a double circle around an apocryphal earlier Ming mark for the Emperor Xuande. The mark is to honour not to deceive The pattern with gold fish and lotus represents a wish for gold in abundance with wishes for gold and jade in particular. Excellent quality
