Details:With an avant-garde spirit, Simon elaborates his works in mixed media where free association of words and images plays a fundamental role. Being passionate of the collage and decollage technique, he incorporates characters taken from old magazines and associates them with random words to create new meanings. He also adds layers of paint and often removes elements already incorporated in his works in order to rediscover what lies beneath them. The combination process of his technique makes his work difficult, if not impossible, to typecast. The words combined with the cut-up images and the layers of paint, generate a new work of art resulting from technical variation and the free association of ideas. Simon Kirk: “In my work I freely associate cut up text and images to create a self-contained scenario with its own reality. I’m a big fan of haiku and the gentle playfulness that helps us view everyday life with fresh eyes. I find it fascinating to see how my cut-up texts and the images collide. My cut-ups are not captions, they are as vital as the images. This piece is a synergy of poetry and painting, text and image, abstraction and figuration.” Acrylic, Collage, Mixed Media and Image Transfer on MDF.
