Published several weeks before the American edition, though the books were physically produced earlier (LC received its two copies May 26th). The British edition appeared June 9th, while the earliest notice in Publishers Weekly for the American Edition was June 21st. See the bibliographical discussion on pages 555-6 of the Harvard edition. Wozniak catalog #62. It comprises his edited Gifford Lectures on natural theology, which were delivered at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 1901 and 1902. The lectures concerned the nature of religion and the neglect of science in the academic study of religion. Soon after its publication, Varieties entered the Western canon of psychology and philosophy and has remained in print for over a century. Its perhaps considered the greatest book ever published on the psychology of religion.
