About the object

A carved chert cylinder seal with an elegant young lady, facing right, with neck-tied hair, in a close-fitting ankle-length robe, ending in fringes at the bottom, with wide belt, emphasising the buttocks; at her feet she is flanked by two lying lionesses with dorsally curved tails, facing each other; with the right arm angled behind her back, she holds a leash attached on the neck of the left lioness; with her left hand she holds a wide and long stole in front of her; at the height of her upper body, behind her, a resting lion, right in front of her a swan, both animals also facing each other; lions and waterfowl are the symbolic animals of the goddess Ištar / INANA in the iconography of the Ancient Near East; accompanied by a museum-quality impression. 6.57 grams, 26mm (1"). Very fine condition.
