Carl Wilhelmson (1866-1928) Sweden

Carl Wilhelmson was a Swedish visual artist from Fiskebäckskil. He studied at Slöjdföreningens Skola (now the School of Design and Crafts), the Valand School of Fine Art and in Leipzig. Wilhelmson is considered to be a national romantic who preferentially portrayed maritime motifs depicting the arduous life of the fishing community. Wilhelmson’s painting technique employs a thinly applied layer of paint leaving glimpses of small unpainted canvas patches between brushstrokes.

Wilhelmson’s work is represented at the Gothenburg Museum of Art, Waldemarsudde, the Thielska galleriet in Stockholm and at The National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen.
