Richard Serra (1939-) USA

Richard Serra is an American minimalist sculptor. Serra studied at the Yale University School of Art and Architecture and then began to work with monumental and abstract shapes, often in materials such as rubber, lead and concrete. Over time, Serra worked on an increasingly large scale and his sculptures are not entirely unconventional. He also works with drawings and has created many public works of art around the world. Serra's work “Titled Arc” was erected in Manhattan's Federal Plaza in 1981, but was removed against his will eight years later because of complaints from workers in the surrounding office buildings.
