Alexander Calder (1898-1976) USA

Calder was an American sculptor, best known as the inventor of the mobile, which he formed from abstract shapes suspended in the air, intended to move with air currents. He also created stationary sculptures, which he dubbed ’stabiles’, and, later in his career, monumental works. MOMA was an early supporter of his work in the 1930s, and Calder’s works can be found in major international collections today.
