Model Train

In the 19th century, the introduction of the train roused both wonder and fear amongst the public; for the admirers of this new technology, the release of models train and railways from the 1940s onwards brought some of this magic into the home. The earliest model trains were dubbed 'carpet railways', due to the fact that the train did not have a track, but ran freely across the floor instead. Model trains have undergone vast improvements since the days of the 'carpet railways', with today's versions replicating entire cities; in some cases, the surrounding landscape of buildings, bridges, greenery etc. receives more attention than the actual train and track. Over the last century, British company Hornby have manufactured model trains and railways, with an additional several brands of trains, tracks and accessories within the company; Hornby have used developments in technology to help model train enthusiasts, creating computer software to plan model railways.
