The multimedia artist Bruce Nauman was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1941. He has performed art in multiple different medias such as video, photography and through sound. During the 1960’s Nauman documented his personal embodied performances and is sees as pioneering within the media of body art. With an interest in language and words he has also worked with phrases throughout his artistic career - both with neon lights and sculptures. Nauman experiments with his idea of the artist as a communicator of symbols and is said to be greatly influenced by the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein.
Nauman attended University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of California.
