Henry B Goodwin (1878-1931) Germany/Sweden

Henry B. Goodwin was one of Sweden's foremost portrait photographers. He was born in Germany, but moved to Sweden in 1904 where he accepted a position as a linguist in Uppsala. He photographed the Swedish elite of the time, and engaged in public debate. Through his broad and deep background in the humanities, he rejuvenated the Swedish photography debate, which was extremely intense during the first decades of the twentieth century. His most famous works include the books Isländsk ljudlära (1909), Det internationella hjälpspråksproblemet (1911), Täppan som sommarnöje (1925) and Kamerabilden (1929).
