Richard Bergh (1858-1919) Sweden

Richard Bergh was a Swedish painter who studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. He was also a founding member of the Konstnärsförbundet artists' association together with artists such as Carl Larsson and Ernst Josephson, as a reaction to the conservative currents within the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts.
Bergh’s motifs are often portraits and landscapes. His style is realistic with elements of national romanticism and he was fascinated by the Nordic light and environment. Bergh later became director of Nationalmuseum, and had great influence on the contemporary arts scene. In addition to Nationalmuseum, his work is represented at the Malmö Art Museum and the Thiel Gallery.
