Inside will launch in September at the Southbank Centre, London. For the show, Gormley has worked with the Koestler Trust to select pieces for the exhibition. Previous curators include Grayson Perry and Sarah Lucas.

7 000 works of art, design, writing and music were put forward for selection by those serving time in a UK prison, ex-offencders as well as other those in other secure facilities such as hospitals and immigration removal centres.

In a statement, British artist Gormley said: ''I want to celebrate this great resource: the imaginations of the 85,000 prisoners currently in UK prisons and those in secure establishments Art is a place in which you can do what you like; it need not be for or about anyone else but the artist. In the words of one prisoner, 'in our minds we can always be free.' I want this work to say something to all of us outside about what it feels like to be a detainee, inside.''

Inside: Art by offenders, secure patients and detainees will be at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall from 21st September to 15th November, 2017. See here for more information.
