Lowry gave the original painting from which the print was taken to his friend, Alex Leggett, the chairman of Lancashire cricket club, who loved art and cricket in equal measure. In 1967 Alex sold the painting to a friend, who displayed it in his home for a number of years. Unfortunately the value of Lowry's work rose dramatically, which made insurance very expensive, so he hid the picture in a suitcase on top of a wardrobe in the attic, where the painting lay for years and was forgotten. When the owner passed away last year, his son found the painting and sold the forgotten gem at auction.

The same auction will feature watches, jewellery, silver and antiques.
