BJ Sears was a praised film editor and taught at Savannah College of Art and Design. During his time in Los Angeles, Sears worked on films such as Amadeus, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Jacob's Ladder and Henry & June.

His sculptures fuse together his adoration for history, the Electrophonic Anacroscope, for example, explores the notion of time travel.  Kelsey Sundberg, Sear's niece, commented how ''Sears launches his experiments into art, mechanics and contemporary digital technology. Creating his narrative through historical facts that run just alongside the truth.''

Sears artworks combine the aesthetic with the scientific.

''I liked the idea of the confluence of art and science…assembling two disparate objects that result in some third medium.'' BJ Sears.
