The standing mobile has never been seen at auction, this will be the first time it goes on sale since it was first purchased in 1978 through Galerie Maeght in Paris. The work will be sold with a copy of the original purchase receipt. This is one of the last works Calder produced for the Galerie Maeght show in 1976, which opened shortly after his death.

Galerie Maeght helped nurture the careers of the post-war avant garde, including 20th century masters such as Marc Chagall, Marcel Duchamp and Joan Miro.

Peter Loughry, LAMA's Director of Fine Art & Design, said of the piece: ''The substantial size, the simple construction, the elegant balance and the primary colours - Quatre Blances shows Calder's masterful ability to distill his life's work into a simple gesture.''

This year is a particularly exciting year for fans of Calder as both Tate Modern, London and Pulitzer Art Foundation, in St. Louis, Missouri will have exhibitions showing Calder's sculptures.

In an eclectic collection of pieces from giants of the design and art world, the LAMA catalogue includes pieces from Warhol, as well as an Agnes Martin watercolour from 1977, Picasso ceramics, a Sam Maloof Fiddleback maple rocking chair and a selection of custom George Nakashima furnishings.
