Parker purchased the piece via telephone bid at Phillips in February this year for £2.8 million, breaking all previous auction records for Weiwei.
It is rumoured that art consultant Stefan Simchowitz advised Parker on the purchase.
Weiwei's work, which Parker fought off to other telephone bidders for, depicts Chinese zodiac signs which are inspired by the later looted 18th century sculptures created for a fountain clock in Beijing's Summer Palace.
Parker's purchased the seventh edition in the series of eight which was first on show at Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York, in 2011.
