The image of the crying girl smothered by a cloud of teargas was accompanied by a QR code which linked to a video of French riot police using teargas and other riot control tactics at the ''Jungle'' migrant camp in Calais, tactics which the police have denied using.

It is reported that the property developer of the construction site has covered the work in a bid to ensure it is not stolen or damaged. Police were called to the mural on Sunday evening after reports that a group of men were trying to remove the work by force.

In 2008, Banksy's defaced Hirst, Keep it Spotless sold at Sotheby's for  £1 290 000. The fact that Banksy's French mural appeared on his website, proving its authenticity, makes this work particularly valuable.
