Curated by Julia Grosse and Yvette Mutumba, the first women to ever lead the project, Focus: African Perspectives will bring to the foreground rising artists from Africa and the African diaspora.

2016's commissioned artist is Kapwani Kiwanga who has created The Secretary's Suite, a work which replicates the 1961 office of the Secretary General of the United Nations.

From Nigeria, artists Karo Akpokiere and Emeka Ogboh, with the latter having recreated a Lagos bus stop, complete with sound. From South Africa, Ed Young has created a series of text works, one which reads: "All So Fucking African." Also from South Africa, Jared Ginsburg will present two motorized sculptures.

In the 22nd edition of the fair, five more galleries will be exhibting compared to last year, whilst this year there is an increase of eight countries participating.
