With an incredible estimate of £80 000 - £120 000, the piece is sure to make the sale unmissable. Penn was an influential fashion, portrait and still life photographer who famously said: ''a good photograph is one that communicates the fact, touches the heart, and leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it; it is in one word, effective.''

Sworders Managing Director, Guy Schooling said, "It's extremely exciting to be able to sell the work of such a major, modern and contemporary photographer - artwork which is seen usually only in the salerooms of New York, London and Paris. Irving Penn's work is very fashionable and in the last ten years has become highly collectable. Penn pioneered an unusual method of dry transfer printing and was able to produce beautiful prints from the originals."

The print depicting the gingko leaves was one of just 22 created in 1992 and was bought at a charity auction by the current owner around ten years ago. Since then it has hung in a Gloucestershire home. Another version of this print recently sold for £272,000 in America.

Scandinavian Design will also be a main feature of the sale, with over 350 lots going under the gavel, including a Danish rosewood bureau.

A gold Liberty Cymric freshwater pearl and turquoise necklace by Manxman Archibald Knox (1864-1933) is an unusual piece of Art Nouveau with a Celtic twist, estimated at £2000-£3000 is a stunning addition to the sale.

Three 20th century Art and Design sales are due to be held this year in addition to the sale of the James Brett fine furniture collection of 17th, 18th and 19th Century pieces. In June the company is also holding its first ever Accessories Sale, offering luxury fashion items, including handbags, sunglasses and costume jewellery.

Guy Schooling added, "It's a very dynamic market at the moment, with a great demand for 20th century furniture by buyers of all ages. Changing fashions mean that Scandinavian furniture produced in the 1970s is particularly popular and the only way to match that desire is to hold more specialist sales."
