The Diss Auction Rooms of TW Gaze host 52 weekly sales of over 2,000 lots. This week, the auction house is listing the Robert Barley Sale, with items from Barley’s personal and stock collections.

Barley was a self-taught antiques, collectibles and objets d’art dealer and all-round enthusiast. During his trading days, he was entirely London-based, including running a stall on Portobello Road Market on Saturdays, dealing out of a shop just off Fulham Palace Road (described by TW Gaze as “part oasis, part Aladdin’s cave”), and sitting on vetting committees for several antique fairs.

According to TW Gaze, Robert’s business cards always sported the words “Never Boring” – and it was this notion which defines the collection of items in this sale, to be held on Friday 21 September (with viewings taking place by appointment or to the public on Thursday 20 September from 2pm to 8pm).

The auction includes over 500 lots of pictures, sculpture, furniture, textiles, architectural features and artefacts spanning 2,000 years of world culture. One such example is this colourful 20th-century Peruvian scene, Picking Wild Fruits which is signed F. Manyange.

The auction will be a bespoke event in the newly-built Waveney Room on Roydon Road in Diss, Norfolk.
