Mark Tansey is an American painter, from San Jose, California, now living in downtown New York City. Tansey describes himself as a naturalistic painter. Tansey's work has been on display at many galleries and museums including the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C. He has also had solo exhibitions In Basel, Germany, New York and across the states.

During his career, Tansey was inspired by René Magritte's eight methods in order to capture the interplay between symbol and meaning.

French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson is often hailed as the father of photojournalism. Cartier-Bresson is best known for his candid photographs and for playing a major role in street photography. He is a most inspirational photographer who created the term The Decisive Moment.

The subjects of his photographs over the years included Truman Capote, Coco Chanel, Marcel Duchamp, William Faulkner and Ezra Pound.

Vettriano was born in Fife, Scotland and began his working career as a mining engineer. He submitted two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition in 1989 and sold both on the first day of showing. Jack Vettriano was awarded the OBE for Services to Visual Arts in November 2003.

Here, Vettriano depicts Therese Raquin, 1867, a novel and a play (published 1873) by French writer Émile Zola.

This is number six of Giacometti's series of nine female figures entitled Femmes de Venise. They are quite possibly Giacometti's best work, and regarded as the artists most noted contribution to 20th century art.

The figures demonstrate the metamorphoses of Giacometti's vision of the female form. Swiss-born Giacometti's father was post-Impressionist painter Giovanni Giacometti. Giacometti's sculptures in recent years have broken records and are set to continue to do so.

Nigerian-born Oghale Thomas works handle a variety of subjects including landscapes and the characters of his home land. Oghale also conveys such themes as the inner-psyche.

Czech and American artist, Polo's abstract piece portrays the third day of Genesis, as the earth was divided from the waters. The work handles the relationship between fire, water and light. The thin line in the painting represents a state of purgatory between heaven and hell. Polo created this work whilst living in Staten Island, New York and is one of his most-celebreated abstract works.
