Camille Pissarro is considered as one of the most important and active artists of the Impressionist period who will be featured in this sale. Pissarro fought to ensure that Impressionist painting gained the recognition it deserved within the art world. However, during his lifetime, he sold very little and lived a poor life.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir was a friend of Pissarro's, the two painted together stood side by side with fellow artist Claude Monet. Renoir was also very active during his career, his estate included more than 6 000 works, featuring dancers, landscapes and nudes. Three works by this Renoir are featured in this sale.

This still life is the work Lovis Corinth. It was completed the year before his death and it testament to the artist's great talent for colour. With his Impressionist style, each flower of the bouquet comes into its own: the bright colours are in strong contrast with the withering flowers.

This triptych by Giovanni Giacometti is the most important pieces featured in the sale. The artist was commissioned to paint the countryside around the spa Flims in Graubünden.
Giovanni Giacometti, together with Cuno Amiet, pioneered Post-Impressionism in Switzerland. He studied in Munich and Paris, influenced by the works of Giovanni Segantini, Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cézanne. The Swiss landscape was a great source of inspiration for him. The auction will also include portraits of his sculptor son Alberto.

Tony Cragg is one of the most influential visual artists of our time. In addition to his artistic talents, which have been recognised through numerous exhibitions, awards and honors, he is also dedicated to teaching young artists. He has taught at the École des Beaux-Arts in Metz, the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, which he chaired from 2009 to 2013.

Anselm Kiefer's work explores German history and myth, often using unusual materials, much like his teacher, Joseph Beuys.

After he returned from the ravages of World War I, Kirchner's new Swiss home offered him protection and security. The local landscape and the rural population was a great source of inspiration to him.
