The Festival International du Cirque de Monte-Carlo has been held annually in Monaco since 1974. Taking place in January and February at the permanent Chapiteau de Fontvieille the circus event includes the "Clown d'Or" - or ''Golden Clown''- award.

The sale marking the 40th anniversary of the Festival International du Cirque de Monte-Carlo includes hundred of lots paying tribute to the renowned Fratellini family, such as paintings, drawings and prints of the Fratellini clowns, for the most part signed by artists such as Joseph Faverot, Jules Monge, Pierre Lacroix and Marcel Prangey.

Photographs of the Fratellinis, the Pierrots de Wilette the Cirque d' iver and Cirque Medrano as well as rare promotional objects and personal items such as costumes will be in the auction. Costumes belonging to François Fratellini made by Jeanne Peres from velvet, diamante and lace have been estimated to sell for €4 000-6 000.
