6559-0 1941 BMW 327 Coupe

The BMW 327 Coupe was first launched in 1937 as a cabriolet, a significant move for BMW, whose design repertoire had been mostly smaller, sports cars.

The cars used the hydraulic brake control, gear box, clutch and front suspension system which was first seen on the BMW 326, along with the live axle used on the BMW 320 and BMW 328. The engine was a BMW M78 straight-6 engine and the advertised top speed was 125 km/h.

The coachwork is in the striking Black and Cream classic combination, and inside is finished with a rich red interior.

The elegant pre-war Packard was a favourite of the rich and fabulous during the 1930s, especially in it's place of creation, America. The light steering, meant, during this period, it was a favourite amongst their female clientele.

Louis Delage founded Delage in Levallois-Perret near Paris, in 1905. In 1935, it was acquired by Delahaye and in 1953 ceased operation.

The D6 with the chassis built by French coachbuilders like Henry Chapron or Figioni Et Falaschi are highly sought after, this version has been built to with the coachbuilder's label Guillaume Busson, Nanterre is displayed on the dashboard. Incredibly, only one similar car survived which was raced by the daughter of one of the most remembered Bugatti Racing drivers.

Until this auction, this car has been on display at the Automobile Museum Stainz.

By 1908 the factory had grown in success and were able to enter Grand Prix races. In the same year Delage won the Grand Prix des Voiturettes which was held on 6th July.

The event, which had 47 starters, consisted of six laps of the 47.74 miles Dieppe Grand Prix circuit. Delage fielded three cars: a pair with 1,242 cc De Dion-Bouton twins, driven by Thomas and Lucas-Bonnard, and a 28 hp 1,257 cc one-cylinder, which was built by Nemorin Causan in the hands of Delage dealer Albert Guyot. Guyot won at an average 49.8 mph, incredibly without stopping for fuel. All three Delages finished, with Thomas the quickest of the two-cylinder cars. This impressive race result meant that sales exceeded 300 cars that year.

The sale has a fantastic selection of sports cars, including this 1971 Ferrari Dino 246 GT, which was produced following the need for a production-based engine for the new Formula 2. Following the success of the limited edition Dino 206S sports-racer of 1966, Ferrari retained the racer's mid-engined layout for the road car but installed the power unit transversely rather than longitudinally.

The Lamborghini Countach was built by an incredibly talented team of designers, who designed the car with the aim for it to be the most extrovert and outrageous car available for the street.

The styling of the car was designed by Bertone's Marcello Gandini. Legend has it, when the first prototype was revealed, one of the factory workers shouted "Countach," a local Piemontese word which can translate as "Wow!" and so the car was named.
