blog.php-632 Bottom right of the frame under the border, features a mark representing the Tiara of Saitaferne and an engraved inscription "Roukhomovsky Paris"

An exceptional work by Israel Roukhomovsky (1860 - 1936) will be featured in the sale. The goldsmith is world famous for the Tiara of Saitaferne, which was acquired by the Louvre Museum in 1896.

In 1896 the Louvre acquired the Tiara of Saitaferne for 200 000 gold francs. The piece was dated back to the second century but experts doubted the authenticity of the piece, which turned out to be a fake. The tiara was indeed a fake, and it was actually Israel Roukhomovsky who made. He had made the tiara for 2 dealers for around 7 000 francs. Roukhomovsky was called to Paris to authenticate the piece for the Louvre, and he finally settled in France. He received several rewards for the quality of this tiara and his works in general".

Finally, a collection of bookplates V. Khydoley (1945-2007) and a dozen lots from Vadim Schavinsky archives (1896-1976) close this exquisite sale of Russian art.

Public exhibitions will take place 18th July & 19th July at Hall VV in Paris. For more information, see here.
