The piano, which Sting used for a decade and wrote The Last Ship, If on a Winter's Night... and The Labyrinth albums on, was estimated to sell for £30 000-£50 000.

The sale, which had a total of £3 006 812, also featured artworks by Picasso, Matisse, Klimt and Keith Haring as well as work by photographer-of-the-moment Mapplethorpe.

150 lots were sold from Sting and Trudie Styler's Queen Anne's Gate, London, home. Read more about the sale here.
