Titled “The Eclectic Collection of Dr. Fischer”, the sale will be held at Tajan on May 23rd, 2018. With a selection of items, that could not be any more varied, collectors will be able to indulge in the taste of an explorer who, to say the least, have lived a tumultuous life.

Beginning with fine jewellery, the sale will continue on art and art deco, featuring exceptional works by Demeter Chiparus and Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann.

Dr. Georg Fischer discovered his taste for adventure at an early age. The family home of the Fischers (a huge Viennese castle) was being subjected to harsh conditions during the winter months, which forced the family to take refuge in one of the towers of the castle, leaving the remains of the house uninhabited. It was at this time that the young Georg discovered the thrills of exploring as he wandered the big, abandoned wings of the castle.

Among the impressive collection of watches - counting nearly 75 - we noticed this Philippe Patek in white gold. The two-tone dial, silver and black, has three small arc-de-cercle windows at the top, which allow the reading of the day, the month and the year. Below, there is an opening showing the phases of the moon and the 24 hours of the day. A very fine detail is the oscillating weight of the watch adorned with the Calatrava Cross. The richness and quality characteristic of Patek, even up to the dauphine hands in white gold, make this 324 caliber model one of the undeniable highlights of the selection.

This ladies watch by Breguet also makes quite a good impression. The model "Queen of Naples Jewelry", ref. 8909, with its ovoid shape, in white gold has some diamonds to show off. The hour display, with Roman numeral indexes, is off-center to the bottom of the mother-of-pearl dial, while the indicator of the power reserve and the moon phase is placed at the top. The countless details of this marvel of watchmaking, such as the bezel set with diamond Breguet needles, can be admired at the time of sale.

As for gold lovers, our favourite item at the sale is this Italian carnelian finery signed POMELLATO. Consisting of an 18ct yellow gold necklace with moving links and carnelian rings, and a similar bracelet, this vibrating adornment can be worn as a set, or the bracelet can be connected to the necklace to form a longer one.

Demeter Chiparus (1886-1947) was a Romanian artist who dedicated his artistic life to portraying dancers. With the Russian ballerinas as inspiration, he created pieces that fit undeniably in the Art Deco style and illustrated the dancers and their costumes perfectly representing the fashion of the time.

"The Girls" is a rare chryselephantine sculpture in bronze with red, silver and gold decorations. The posture of the dancers recalls nautical ballets, while their costumes are inspired by cinema and architecture of the time. The delicacy of the faces and the dancers’ expressions, as well as the fine details of the costumes, make it an object of "luxury" art of considerable value.

For Chiparus lovers, here’s a new piece to fall in love with - a chryselephantine sculpture in gilded bronze, staged with two barzoï greyhounds. The precision and details of the dress with polychrome highlights and silver earrings are not, to say the least breathtaking.

Dr. Fischer's traveling instinct inspired him to take interest in diverse cultures and artistic movements from elsewhere, to fill his collections.

Numerous nicknames have been attributed to the artist Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann. From the "genius of Art Deco" to the "great modern cabinetmaker", the talented designer is considered one of the great masters of the French decorative arts and was the undisputed winner of the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Art.

One of the key pieces of Dr. Fischer's collection is a rosewood veneer vanity, made around 1931 and stamped "Ruhlmann". This model is called "Van Beuningen". This atypical design piece is again in the Art Deco style and acts as proof of the visionary spirit of Ruhlmann.
