Amongst these is a very special lot, a pinnacle of an altarpiece showing a Crucifixion scene by Jaume Ferrer I, an important artistic figure in Catalan who was active in Lérida in the second quarter of the 15th century. This egg tempera painting has a beautiful golden background and sits on rectangular wooden panel, at the base of which is painted in black gothic letters DOMINATES LABIA MEA APERIES (Lord, open my lips [and my mouth will declare your praise]) Book of Psalms 50, v.17.

16 Crucifixion scene by Jaume Ferrer I

This top element of an altarpiece appears, to the auction house's knowledge, here for the first time. It fits in the second phase of Jaume Ferrer I's career and seems to be the missing element of the recently reconstructed Saint Andrew altarpiece as the measurements, style of characters and elements of the frame of the other parts correspond to the piece up for sale on the 21st.
