On Wednesday 24 October, the repertoire looks a little different to normal at the Swedish Royal Opera. Through Barnebys’ partnership with the Royal Opera and Stockholms Auctionsverk, the evening is offering 50 items from the Opera archives, which will be sold for charitable purposes. The 50 pieces comprise 30 pieces of clothing and 15 items from from some of the opera's most appreciated performances, as well as five ‘experiences’.

The auctioneer on the evening will be Barnebys’ very own Pontus Silfverstolpe.

The objects can be viewed in-person at the opera from Friday 19 October, where they are to be displayed in the foyer and stairwell. However, for those sitting behind computer screens, they are course also available on Barnebys.

Up until the auction at 5pm on 24 October, it is possible to bid online at Stockholms Auktionsverk. After that, bids will also be accepted from within the room and on the phone.

The purpose of the auction is to raise funds for the ‘Unga på Operan’ (‘Youth of the Opera’). The operation is funded primarily by government funds, but in order for the business to devote itself towards promoting the culture of young people, including inviting children and young people who might otherwise be completely uninitiated opera goers, additional resources are required.

"It's a unique opportunity to buy cultural items from some of the most important operas. The auctioned items are of great quality and craft designed by Lars Wallin, for example, and worn by some of our most celebrated ballerinas and opera singers throughout the ages," says Pontus Silfverstolpe, co-founder of Barnebys.

If, like us, you dream of an exclusive evening in a gold foyer accompanied by champagne, performances, and an auction of cultural treasures, you can enter Barnebys’ competition where we are offering places for the evening’s events. Submit your entry to tavling@barnebys.com by 20 October to compete for a ticket for you and a friend on 24 October. We will issue two ticket packages (valued at 2000 SEK or £170).
