Little Blue Box

H0965-L93894994 Tiffany & Co. boxes on sale at Tajan with an estimate of €10-20

For the first Blue Book, Tiffany's annual collection of jewels, published in 1845, founder Charles Lewis Tiffany selected the shade of blue which has today come to be known as Tiffany Blue.

The unforgettable blue may have first been chosen by Charles as turquoise gemstones were extremely popular in the 19th century. Turquoise was also favoured by Victorian brides who would gift their guests with a turquoise brooch in the shape of a dove.

It took no time for the Tiffany Blue Box to become the most coveted packaging in the world, As the New York Sun reported in 1906, "Tiffany has one thing in stock that you cannot buy of him for as much money as you may offer, he will only give it to you. And that is one of his boxes."
