With only a few hours left of the online sale at Catawiki, two collectors battled it out until finally, a bidder from Italy took home the football sticker book. The final winning bid came in at £10 411 (€12 038) twice what it was estimated to sell for.

"This is an international edition of the first World Cup album from Panini," says Catawiki's collectibles expert Wouter Waaijers. "It's very rare. More importantly, it is complete, fitted with all 270 original stickers. The album also has two autographs of football legend Pelé and is in excellent condition.''

This was the third time Brazil took home the trophy, which meant that they could permanently keep the Jules Rimet Trophy, and a new trophy was introduced in 1974.

The team, led by Pelé in his last World Cup finals, defeated Italy 4-1 in the final at Mexico City. So it was interesting to see a bidder from Italy take home the Panini sticker album.
