It’s been 41 years since the first Star Wars film, Episode IV - A New Hope, was released, but fans of the franchise won’t have to wait much longer to get a closer look at the series.

Propstore has rare and iconic film and TV memorabilia, including more than 70 pieces from Star Wars, which sell on 20 September. Items from the auction will be on display at a free exhibition open to the public at the BFI IMAX in Waterloo, London.

A particularly exciting item, going under the hammer for the first time ever, is Han Solo’s (Harrison Ford) dark grey jacket from The Empire Strikes Back (1980). Expected to be one of the highest selling lots – estimated between £500,000 and £1,000,000 – the jacket was worn during the memorable sequences on Cloud City.

A subtle update from Solo’s vest in the first original 1977 film, the jacket maintains a similar cut but with the addition of sleeves and a collar. It is made from a cotton-woollen blend with polyester satin lining and doesn’t display any fasteners as it was designed to be worn open, as with Solo’s vest in A New Hope.

A number of helmets are also up for grabs, including, but not limited to, a First Order Stormtrooper Helmet from The Last Jedi (2017), a Darth Vader helmet casting from The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and a Stormtrooper helmet from the original trilogy (1977-83) with 34 signatures from the cast and crew.

Fans will also be excited to get a glimpse at Anakin Skywalker’s (Hayden Christensen) hero lightsaber from Revenge of the Sith (2005). The lightsaber, estimated at £50,000 to £100,000, is the legendary weapon of a Jedi Knight and a significant prop in the Star Wars narrative. This lightsaber is a hero, close-up version.

It was custom-made for the Revenge of the Sith as a copy of the original Graflex-style saber used by Mark Hamill in the original trilogy, with incredible attention paid to the weapon’s fine detail in order to ensure utmost accuracy.

If Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber isn’t to your taste, there are plenty of other lightsabers up for offer. These include Qui-Gon Jinn’s (Liam Neeson) lightsaber from The Phantom Menace (1999), Darth Maul’s (Ray Park) final battle stunt lightsaber hilt, also from The Phantom Menace, and Darth Sidious’ (Ian McDiarmid) hero lightsaber from Revenge of the Sith.

The Star Wars merchandise doesn’t end here. There are posters, costumes, action figures, autographed scripts and novels, crew patches, displays, hats and much, much more.

Finally, we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t mention some of the highlights from other films up for sale: Tyler Durden’s (Brad Pitt) robe from Fight Club (1999), Marty McFly’s (Michael J. Fox) hoverboard from Back to the Future Part II (1989), Rose’s (Kate Winslet) farewell note from Titanic (1997), Indiana Jones’ (Harrison Ford) signature fedora from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc (1981) and much, much more. 600 unique and original items, to be exact.
