Graphics in flashes of red and yellow side by side with black and white pieces, Minnick's first UK solo exhibition took place at Maddox Gallery. The opening preview on 6th July was a lively affair, with sounds of Hip Hop music and Lana Del Rey blasting through the air on a balmy London evening as collectors, journalists, and fellow U.S. artist Bradley Theodore - who is also represented by Maddox - wandered through Minnick's work.

From large scale canvases, to smaller works on paper and even mixed media installations, it's clear to see Minnick is inspired by the innovative forces of the 1980s that were Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquait.

The ground floor of the gallery was transformed into Minnick's studio, with the floor turned into a huge white canvas for Minnick to adorn with his thick, black designs. Minnick himself was also there, spray painting walls spontaneously, as if he was back in L.A.'s Garvanza Skatepark.

''I work on whatever is available to me,'' commented Minnick. ''There is some on canvas, but most of the recent work is from the studio wall. The energy of the wall, of the wood, is totally different to the canvas.''

Minnick's work is seeped with influences from his previous career as a professional skateboarder, which took a turn when he injured his achilles, forcing him to take a two year hiatus. It was during this time that Danny found and outlet for his energy in the form of the paintbrush and spray can. A breakout L.A. solo show and murals around the city as well as Mexico and both the east and west coasts of America propelled the artist on to the American art scene as well as gaining him attention from renowned collectors.

Like his influencer Haring, social issues play a role in Minnick's oeuvre. The artist has donated works to charities including LIFT, Art of Elysium as well as creating pieces for Cindy Crawford's charity Best Buddies. For the One Love exhibition at Maddox Gallery, Minnick created the titular pieces One Love in homage to the victims of London's recent terror attacks, with proceeds of the sale of a limited-edition print going to the victims of the attacks.

One Love will be at London's Maddox Gallery until 21st July, 2017. See here for more information.
