The award will mark the museum's fifth year anniversary in 2016. The £30 000 prize money is significantly larger than the winning Turner Prize amount, which is £25 000.

All British-based artists can enter the award, with four artists being shortlisted to present their works in the Wakefield gallery in October 2016.

Others plans to celebrate the gallery's anniversary include a new public garden, an exhibition from the collection of Tim Sayer which includes works by Bridget Riley and David Hockney and a retrospective of Martin Parr's photography,
