The penthouse on 46 Carmine Street is where Pollock and the Ab Ex crew hung out.

Luis Ortiz, the Douglas Elliman broker who has the listing said of the apartment: "For Jackson Pollock, 46 was a magical number. As for its interpretation, there are many of them." The number is associated with hermaphroditism, which influenced Pollock's 1942 figurative works including Male and Female.

Two years ago the apartment, which has 14-foot Tudor-style ceilings and a working fireplace, was on the market for $1.4 million when the owner decided to rent Pollock's ex-space for $5,600–5,700 per month.

Pollock's association with the apartment will be sure to push the price of the already desirable West Village property even higher.
