Whilst living at the residence, Bowie wrote and recorded the Berlin trilogy: Low (1977), Heroes (1977), and Lodger (1979). Both the city and the artist had a profound effect on each other.

The plaque, which features the lyrics ''We can be heroes, just for one day,'' will be unveiled by the mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller.

The lyric comes from Bowie's Heroes, which the Pop icon wrote after reportedly being moved when he spied music producer Tony Visconti and his partner embracing at the Berlin Wall.

At the time of Bowie's death on 10th January 2016, fans gathered at both his hometown of Brixton and former home at Hauptstrasse 155.
