The pieces mark St. Alexander Nevsky and the palace at Ropsha from 1855-1881, which is south-west of central Saint Petersburg.

St. Alexander Nevsky, who lived 1221– 1263, is one of Russia's greatest historical heroes. He gained such iconic status on account of his military efforts and defeats against German and Swedish invaders.

In 1547 he was canonised a saint of the Russian Orthodox Church by Metropolite Macarius.
