The warrant for Fairey's arrest was issued after he illegally created artworks on buildings he did not have permission to, whilst commissioned in the city to paint his largest mural to date.

The Detroit Free Press reports that 18 illegal artworks carried out by Fairey have been found, whilst further investigation is underway to find if there are others.

If found guilty of these 18 counts alone, Fairey could be sentenced to up to five years in prison and face potential fines of more than $10,000.

Following negotiations with the artist's attorney, authorities have not extradited the artist and he turned himself in to the Detroit police.
