Online auction house Catawiki features thousands of lots daily, all curated by top-of-the-league specialists. When it comes to wine, the platform has a team of six wine experts who estimate each bottle before it is offered for auction. Patricia Verschelling, who organizes regular sales, states: “we only offer well-conserved bottles, both from well-known domains and small producers. What matters above all is what’s inside!” Some wines are investments, and other can be enjoyed right away, and that’s fine according to the expert.

Catawiki’s latest Exclusive Wine sale closed on 13 May, and featured close to a hundred lots, with prizes ranging from £250 to a whopping £3,800 for a 1990 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru Monopole bottle. This Burgundy wine was perfectly preserved, and its origin is a guarantee of quality.

Another highlight was a 2014 Chateau Mouton Rothschild that sold for £1,700. Wine expert James Suckling gave it a 99/100 score, praising its “full body, chewy yet polished tannins and great depth and complexity on the finish.” He adds: “Try drinking this in 2022.” Definitely a pleasure worth waiting for then – and a savvy investment, as its prize is bound to go up.
